Brrr! The temperature at recess today was 45 degrees. The number of 4th graders without coats was 24. The number of students in short sleeves for the entire twenty minute recess was 13. Yikes! Runny noses abound! Contrary to popular opinion, you may want to remind your child that just because the sun is shining, it's not necessarily conisdered 'hot' outside. Thank you!

Grade 4 News - November 19, 2010
Mrs. Hawley has a letter for 4B students today about her Guidance lessons, complete with tips and ideas for parents. Ask your child for this!
Math Facts Practice
Continue to practice daily! You should see improvement with every test we take. Keep at it and strive to get more correct in a faster time. This is a great thing to practice over your Thanksgiving break.
Book Reports
Students should continue reading their books, and after Thanksgiving we'll begin assembling our paper chains of 'events'. Many are already working on these. Stay tuned. Books should be read by December 1st.
Needed for next week: If you have any grocery ads you could send in next week, we'll be calculating the cost of a Thanksgiving meal in class Tuesday. Thanks in advance for your help!

A Smith Progress Report
In an attempt to photograph Caroline's teeth, I snapped her photo. How do you think I did? Perhaps not quite 'meeting the standard'(N)?
We are crawling all over the place and beginning to pull up on everything. I believe she's progressing on level (check) for a thirteen month old.
And today, we've discovered the steps. Yikes! Caroline has earned the + here. She's definitely exceeding the standard!It's a busy and fun time for us! After a few requests for updated pictures, I decided to post some more. Enjoy!

Guidance Lessons Begin!
Mrs. Hawley, our Guidance Counselor, is working with Grade 4 students on how to manage stress. She will be visiting the 4th grade classrooms in the coming month to give students tips and talk with them about strategies for de-stressing.

Math - We are continuing our work with multiplication and division facts. Keep up with these at home! Practice nightly!
Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday Nov. 18th from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. Call the office to schedule one if you need to speak to us. Thanks!

4th Grade News - November 4, 2010
Red Ribbon Week
We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week with some fun events next week. Students may wear silly slippers on Tuesday, crazy ties on Thursday, and crazy socks on Friday. Students should wear regular uniforms in addition to their fun attire!
Auction Raffle Basket
Don't forget to turn in your giftcard donation for our classroom auction baskets. Check out the nice SCRIP deals in Miss Lang's Week at a Glance. Benefit our raffle basket and earn a tuition discount at the same time!
Math News
Students will be starting timed multiplication and division fact tests next week. Keep up with those basic facts. A rubric will be coming next week with details. Students took a practice test today.

Students have signed up for second quarter current events. We will start these presentations on November 15th and continue into December.
Mini Book Report coming soon!
Students will be selecting a book to read independently of 100 pages in length during SSR time. Details about this in-class project will be outlined next week. Students will be creating a paper chain with events from the story.
PS - We have a lovely collection of sweaters, sweatshirts and coats in our hallway if you're missing any at home!
